Drawn from pin dimensions at one scale across the whole site — hold a plug against the screen and it should look familiar.

The Schuko — short for Schutzkontakt, 'protective contact' — rules Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Spain and much of the continent. Face-on it shows just two round 4.8 mm pins on 19 mm centres; the earth is nowhere among the pins because it runs through spring clips on the plug's sides, gripping matching strips in the socket's deep round recess. Symmetric by design, it goes in either way up, and its 16 A rating at 230 V handles anything domestic.

What fits a Type F socket

Besides its own plug: Type C, Type E. Europlugs fit but float unearthed. E plugs work here because nearly all are hybrid CEE 7/7 with Schuko side contacts as well as the French earth hole; an old French-only plug without side strips would lose its earth.

Facts verified against IEC World Plugs — Type F. Prose is our own.
