A 220 V 50 Hz grid with a mixed European heritage: unearthed Type C is everywhere, newer buildings fit Schuko Type F, and the Italian Type L survives from an earlier era. A europlug handles nearly every socket you will meet. Outages are common enough that many premises keep backup power.

The voltage window

A nominal 220 V supply may legitimately sit anywhere between 198 and 242 V (±10%). Dual-voltage gear (marked 100–240 V) shrugs at all of it.
